ESL Grammar with Fruits

Making kids love grammar is a challenge to most teachers.
I love when we can work on needed vocabulary but incorporate a bit of grammar twist to them.

I was having trouble finding worksheets for revising I like/I don't like expressions with my students. So, I created a packet loaded with resources that make grammar fun. These pages involves reading, writing, making flip books, cutting and coloring.

Learning outcomes, that I had in my mind creating these worksheets are:
- identify food items;
- produce questions and statements about food preferences and
- read and understand short story texts.

Grammar Practice: I like - I don't like - packet includes the following:

Subitizing and Addition with Dominoes

I am always searching for new and inexpensive ways to make a hands on activity for my students and my kiddos. I am really excited when I succeed in making an activity which is appropriate both for my ESL classroom and homeschooling.

Browsing Pinterest the other day, I came across this great idea, a really fun way to practice number recognition, subitizing and basic addition facts. This is exactly what I need in my ESL classroom and at home, a resource that is simple to use, easy and makes math fun.

Subitizing and Addition Practice with Dominoes

The Domino Girl game is suppose to help kiddos practice subitizing in a fun and engaging way.

What is subitizing?

Subitizing is an ability to recognize that the six dots on a die is six, without counting the dots.

Why is subitizing important?

Children who can successfully subitize also can easily compose and decompose numbers.

With the Domino Girl Game, kids will shortly be able to look at a group of something and tell how many there are without counting each individual item.

Moreover, The Domino Girl game will help master math skills, like simple addition. The aim of this game is to add the two sides of a domino and then put it in the matching basket.

It can be differentiated very simply.
I use the Domino Girls numbered 0-10 with my four year old, and the whole set 0-18 with my six year old. I have also two sets of dominoes, one is up to 10, and the other is up to 18.

Subitizing and Addition Practice with Dominoes

I created this Domino Girl Subitizing and Addition NO PREP packet with 19 colorful Domino Girls, numbered 0 - 18. Just PRINT grab your dominoes and PLAY.

Subitizing and Addition Practice with Dominoes

I also made 19 Domino Girls in black&white, numbered 0 - 18, for those like me, who need low cost activities. There are a tiny bit of prep. You have to color 19 Domino Girls. I'm lucky to have students who love coloring, cutting, sticking. I put the Domino Girls in our fast finishers corner, and my students colored and cut out in no time at all. You can also send them with your students to color it at home!

Subitizing and Addition Practice with Dominoes

55 dominos (0.7x1.5 inches) are included in this packet. However, I rather use real dominoes.

How and Why to Play Sudoku with Kids?

Sudoku is a fun puzzle that lets kids use their logical reasoning and critical thinking skills. I use this game to level up my students brain power, stimulate their mind, improve children’s memory.
Most importantly, we have fun! Knowing that they are making an active improvement in their mental and physical health as a result.

You can play sudoku in so many different and funny ways. For example, I love to play it for reinforcing my students vocabulary.

First, I draw a 4x4 grid on a whiteboard and my students draw it in their notebooks.

Sudoku Vocabulary Practice Classroom Game

I try to use notebooks and whiteboard whenever we have time. If you are like me, you have every reason to do that. I believe that student have to practice this type of hand-eye coordination.

Then we write any vocabulary that we want to practice.

The aim of this game is to write the missing words (draw pictures) in the empty squares. Every word must appear only once in each row, column and block.

Shapes Sudoku

I created a Sudoku with Shapes printable for my four and six year old to teach them this magnificent game.
Since we are learning basic shapes, I designed my first sudoku printable with shapes.
I also wanted to include fine motor skill practice in this printable, so I built it as a cut and paste activity.

The aim of this game is to find the missing pictures, cut out...

Bingo Numbers to 100

Primarily I made this printable for my ESL students, but I also use it with my kiddos at home. Both, my pupils and my four and five year old at home love BINGO.
We play Bingo, whenever we have time, with a wide range of topics. It is an easy to play game and it doesn't demand a lot. My students draw a 3x3 or 3x2 grid in their notebooks, write the vocabulary we need to reinforce, and the game can start. It was great as far as we played with 10 to 15 words. The problem appeared with numbers 1 to 100, when we needed a bigger grid and more words.

Eventually, I solved my problem by making this printable. It made my day!

Bingo 1 to 100 Classroom Game

I prefer the Call Card more than the Number Cards. Simply because, there is just one Call Card. By contrast,  there are 100 Number Cards.

I use a sheet protector to make my Call Card durable. I write with dry-eraser on it, so I can use it more than once.

Bingo 1 to 100 Classroom Game

There are 36 unique game cards, enough for my class. They can be printed in color, on card stock or laminated for future use. Honestly, I prefer to print them out in black and white. My students stick them in their notebooks, they cross the numbers out with their pencils. I don't like to use buttons because my classes are too large.

Each card is individually numbered to help me keep track of my cards.
