Subitizing and Addition with Dominoes

I am always searching for new and inexpensive ways to make a hands on activity for my students and my kiddos. I am really excited when I succeed in making an activity which is appropriate both for my ESL classroom and homeschooling. Browsing Pinterest the other day, I came across this great idea, a really fun way to practice number recognition, subitizing and basic addition facts. This is exactly what I need in my ESL classroom and at home, a resource that is simple to use, easy and makes math fun. The Domino Girl game is suppose to help kiddos practice subitizing in a fun and engaging way. What is subitizing? Subitizing is an ability to recognize that the six dots on a die is six, without counting the dots. Why is subitizing important? Children who can successfully subitize also can easily compose and decompose numbers. With the Domino Girl Game, kids will shortly be able to look at a group of something and tell how many there are without counting each indiv

Letter Learning Activity

I made this Alphabet Poster in addition to my Alphabet Bottle Cap Practice for my five year old. I really don't try to push the letters, so she is at the beginning stage of learning, steel learning to recognize them. Her favorite games are matching up letters to the same one in another place, singing the Alphabet Song, arranging letters into alphabetical order. This printable covers all the activities she loves. Halloween Math Addition and Subtraction up to 10 + A Freebie

Hands on activities make math fun. I just created a few Halloween manipulatives for my kiddos and they were in love! With my five year old we are practicing addition and subtraction up to 10. There is a mommy spider on a web...We have ten mommy spiders, they are numbered from 1 to 10. ...and 120 baby spider chips, for all addition and subtraction facts up to 10. Addition up to 10 Subtraction up to 10    The first step is to put the mommy spiders in numbered order on the bed, table or wherever you want. The kids are challenged finding the mommy spider for 120 baby spiders. The aim is to match the spider chips to the correct web. Firstly, pick up a card, read the equation and solve it before you place it on the matching web.  My four year old is also eager to learn. He is mastering the numbers up to 10, so I needed to make something engaging and funny for him too. I crated these pumpkin ten frames after being i

Halloween Lower and Upper Case Matching Cards

I like to come up with hands on activities to practice the alphabet. Halloween upper and lower case letter cards engage children in a fun and entertaining way. These Halloween printables are guaranteed  fun and learning in one. The kiddos won't even know that they are doing work and learning. This set of alphabet cards is very low-prep. Just follow the instructions from the picture below.  I created these cards to be used in many different games. The possibilities are endless. You can use them simply by matching the upper and lower case letter cards, but you can create your own games, too.  If you have some good ideas, feel free to share them in the comment section. If you are looking for ideas to practice alphabet recognition, here are the activities I usually play with these cards. I Spy Bottle

I found this I Spy Bottle idea on Pinterest. It was immediately on my wishlist. So I made it for my kiddos. I collected some small objects around my house. If you decide to make an I spy bottle, make sure that everything fits through the top of your bottle. :) I will also recommend choosing colorful objects as well. Put the selected collection in the bottle, then add dry rice until the bottle is 3/4 full. I chose a plastic bottle, since my kiddos are five and four. One more important thing! Write down the objects, or take a picture before you put them in the bottle, otherwise you won't be able to help in the game later on. Voila, in no time, it is ready to use! We had great time playing with this I spy game. Since my children aren't literate yet, they drew the objects. They were amused and I was happy to see them playing together. But the most fascinating moment came after the game, this was the moment when I found them all over the
