In case you need a super effective, simple and fun activity for your classroom you must try this game for sure! If you are not familiar with the game BANG! or KABOOM!, here it is.
I stumbled upon this awesome game over at Come Together Kids blog. Once my kids learned to play this game it became our class favorite.
It's super easy to make.
What do you need for this game?
- flashcards or popsicle sticks
- a few BANG cards
- a can
- optional: jar labels, scrapbook paper if you want to decorate your can.
The best part about this game is that it is easily adaptable. You can use it for letters, sight words, numbers, math facts, etc. It is great to review almost any concept. Depending on the grade, it can be kept very basic, or made much more complex.
HOW TO PLAY:
Place all the cards or sticks in your can and get ready to play the game!
Players take turns pulling out a word card from a can. If they know the answer, they keep the card.
If the player is incorrect, the card goes back into the container.
Continue taking turns and collecting correctly answered cards.
If students get a BANG card, they have to give all of their cards back to you.
The player with the most cards wins the game.
Teacher tips:
I like to put up to five copies of the same word in the jar, especially when we use new lexical sets.
If you don't want to spend the time designing your own game... I've done that part for you. Check it out bellow.
First I found myself in a need for some scrapbook paper.
Then, I created can labels in similar colors:
And voila, here is our BANG CAN.
I made these labels in b&w version for my students. A few of them made this game at home and play BANG with their siblings and/or parents ever since.
Before all that we made tons of word cards. I designed these letter tiles for a cut and paste activity in order to help accurate spelling. This is an inexpensive version of Montessori movable alphabet.
Whenever there were a few spare minutes in a lesson we cut those letters and collected them in a pill organizer.
Then we made lots of word cards and a few BANG cards.
You can find this and other vocabulary games in my Vocabulary Games and Activities - Growing Resource with FREE updates for life. Once you buy this resource, you will receive the updates for FREE!
